Who we are

Team STASIS is the home of a small group of student game artists from De Montfort University tasked with creating a playable game level from absolute scratch, utilising the UDK development software.

From concepting, visual design, research, asset building, level progression and finished pieces, this blog records the progression from 19th January to 30th March 2011.

Team members include Arron Manchester, Sam Clarke, Izzy Kahn, Sai Ali, Steven Jones and Tom Edwards.

For any questions or feedback please feel free to leave comments.

P.S A run through and fly through of the finished level shall be posted soon!

Group discussion [1st Feb] Notes:

After seeing what the other groups have been up to I think its fair to say we realised the importance of blocking out the level plan before continuing with detailed asset creation. After discussion the group decided that we should 'block-out' the level environment by making primitive assets to the scale of those which we have been assigned to model. For example for my Fire Axe cabinet I shall create a box to the correct measurements and assign a basic UV to label it (either a quick outline image or simply text)

So for now, we shall finish whatever assets we are currently working on and build these placeholders.

If Steve is happy I'd like to work with him in blocking out the level in UDK. I have a grasp of how to use BSP so we can create a master file which will be kept on my ftp, we can work on that over the next week. I will need Sam to explain some of the measurements taken in order to draw up detailed floor plans to work from. If anyone else on the team would like to help in creating the rooms please say so, the more the merrier.

Once we have the level blocked out and asset placeholders positioned it will be easier to draw up some more concept art based on each location within the level.

Keep up the good work Team STASIS, lets get impressive.

  2. Yeah, need to discuss floor plans and what not but if you want to start on placeholders they can be done over this week, I'm thinking trying to sync the completion of placeholders with the completion of the udk mock up so that next week we can place everything in udk and crack on with the whole level.
